Ormes of London - 1870

This print appeared in The Illustrated London News on January 1, 1870. It is a view of the buildings in Wych Street, Westminster, including the Rising Sun Tavern.

The shop front in the bottom right-hand corner says: "M.A. Ormes, Dealer in Coals". Click here to see a photography of the same street taken later.

The original watercolour was painted by S. Read in 1860 and can be viewed on-line at Collage - an image database containing 20,000 works from the Guildhall Library and Guildhall Art Gallery London.
